Never in the history of Jazz has there ever been nor will there ever be a story anything like that of Betty Carter. With the passing of Betty goes the passing of an entire jazz era.

Here we give to you a project still evolving. An inspiring story of artistic passion, total dedication and determination coupled with musical and entrepreneurial genius. Dedicated to all of her loving fans as well as those yet to come.

Lillie Mea Jones at age 16 falls in love with a new form of musical expression (Be bop) and begins an incredible journey that will ultimatly transform her into Jazz legend Betty Carter. "The Godmother of jazz!"
1960-1980: Full text with images.
Betty Carter finds fame to be fleeting as she raises two children and creates her own record company Bet-Car Records. Only to have to re-introduce herself to the public as jazz begins to spiral twoards decline.
1980-1998: Full text with images.
Betty Carter becomes a jazz power house as she stays pure to the music she loves! A jazz purist to the end Betty gains the respect she deserves as she brokers new deals with the record industry; recieves a long over due Grammy; creates the Jazz Ahead Festival and meets with President Clinton to recieve the National Medal of Arts.
